There is no doubt that Western films have become true classics and continue to influence popular culture today. Within this acclaimed genre, we can find iconic cowboy films and series that share a number of distinctive features that audiences continue to find highly appealing.
In today’s Kolser article, we take a look at some of the latest and most notable Western series available on the major streaming platforms.

The Key Elements of the Western Genre: Why Does This Era Still Fascinate Audiences?

Western stories are generally set in the American Old West of the 19th century and often explore themes linked to frontier expansion, conflicts involving Native American peoples and major historical events. The main character is frequently a troubled or solitary figure searching for adventure while trying to survive in vast and inhospitable landscapes.
Western stories also tend to explore moral dilemmas, social codes and questions of justice. Other defining elements of the genre include its iconic firearms, memorable soundtracks — with Ennio Morricone standing out as one of its most celebrated composers — and dynamic cinematography combining action with spectacular landscapes.
